Barcelona coach Hansi Flick has criticised the referee of his team’s match against Real Betis, stressing that he still cannot understand why he received a red card.
Barcelona failed to maintain their 2-1 lead and lost with a last-gasp goal, and Flick was sent off shortly before after protesting the referee’s decision to award a penalty kick.
The German coach said after the match, “I do not understand why I received a red card, I did not say anything to anyone, it was just a personal reaction, this has never happened to me before in my life.”
He added, “I am really disappointed with what happened today from us on the pitch, we should have won this match.”
He continued, “We have a very young team and we need to develop a lot, we have to be stronger especially in away matches.”
He concluded, “I do not think that Barcelona’s management will appeal my red card, things are fine.”
It is noteworthy that in the last 5 matches in La Liga, Barcelona only managed to obtain 5 points and suffered two defeats against Las Palmas and Real Sociedad, and only won against Mallorca.
