Barcelona coach Hansi Flick has announced that he does not intend to make any changes to the Catalan club’s goalkeeper position for the upcoming matches against Sevilla and Bayern Munich.
Barcelona had signed Szczesny before the international break to replace Ter Stegen, who will not play for eight months after suffering a torn knee ligament.
During the international break, Szczesny worked to regain his football sense after retiring last August, and news from Barcelona says that he has shown excellent levels in training.
Flick was asked in the press conference before the Sevilla match whether current goalkeeper Iñaki Peña would continue playing or rely on Szczesny, to which he replied, “There is no reason to change.”
He added, “Peña is the one who will participate in the Sevilla match, and I can tell you that he will also participate against Bayern Munich on Wednesday.”
“I’m happy with the performance of Szczesny in training, but there is no reason now for me to make a change in goalkeeping,” he concluded.
It is worth noting that Peña participated in 5 matches after Ter Stegen’s injury and managed to keep a clean sheet 4 times.
