Barcelona coach Hansi Flick has criticised Jude Bellingham’s behaviour towards the referee in the Real Madrid-Osasuna game, describing it as ‘disrespectful’.
During the press conference ahead of Barcelona’s match against Rayo Vallecano, Flick was asked what Bellingham did and what the player claims was that he did not insult the referee.
The German coach responded by saying: “For me it is disrespectful. But I am not the one who decides these things and it is not my business.”
He added: “I always tell the players why waste time and energy arguing with the referee and the decisions he makes? There is only one person who speaks to the referee and that is the captain.”
He continued: “I love handball and you can see that when the referee blows his whistle, the ball stays put and the players return to defending. We can learn a lot from this sport.”
He concluded: “I do not like this type of behaviour (the protest and what Bellingham did) and I told my players about it today. It is not good for the team. The red card weakens us and we do not want that.”
Flick was sent off once this season during the Barcelona-Real Betis match for protesting the referee’s decisions.
It is worth noting that if Barcelona wins against Rayo, it will return to the top of the Spanish league, one point ahead of Real Madrid and two points ahead of Atletico Madrid.
