For economic reasons, Liverpool will not field Nunez again!

Darwin Nunez’s absence from the starting lineup for Liverpool has raised many questions, even when coach Arne Slot’s squad has been plagued with injuries recently.

The response has always been that the Uruguayan player is not providing the desired boost, and that Slot is therefore preferring other options. However, this is not what the Portuguese newspaper “A Bola” revealed.

According to the latest report, Liverpool will have to pay Benfica an additional €5 million if Nunez starts 60 matches for the Reds in the Premier League and Champions League.

So far, Nunez has made 59 official appearances for Liverpool since joining two years ago, leaving him just one match away from costing the English club a considerable sum.

Given that Nunez is almost certainly out of Liverpool’s plans for the new season, it has been decided to rely on him only as a substitute until the end of the season and discuss his future after that.

Liverpool paid €80 million to acquire the 26-year-old striker from Benfica two years ago, but the player remains one of the Reds’ most unsuccessful signings in history.

This season, Nunez has played 42 matches in all competitions, scoring just seven goals and providing seven assists.
