Former Argentine football star Hugo Gatti has sparked controversy with his statements in which he considered Cristiano Ronaldo to be better than Lionel Messi, even if the latter is technically superior.
Gatti said in this regard, “Ronaldo is technically limited compared to Messi, but I consider him better because he tested himself in the best teams and international leagues, while Messi remained in Barcelona without real challenges in other clubs.”
He also added, “So far, Ronaldo is playing in Saudi Arabia and the competition there is fierce, while Messi’s level has declined and he plays in America where football is very weak.”
He continued, “Throughout his career, Messi played easy football. He enjoyed the protection of the referees in Barcelona and had a strong team to play for, and even in the 2022 World Cup with the Argentine national team, the circumstances were similar.”
When asked about the comparison between Messi and Maradona, Gatti became angry and commented by saying: “Maradona was hit hard and got up to continue playing, while Lionel stopped at any simple touch. You cannot compare him to Diego who faced more difficult challenges.”
It remains to be noted that Gatti is one of the legends of goalkeeping in Argentina and Boca Juniors, and he is the most participating in the Argentine league matches with 765 matches, and he is also the most penalty kick saver (26 kicks).
