Real Madrid’s search continues to sign a new central defender during the upcoming winter transfer period after the major injury that afflicted Eder Militao and ended his season.
However, the newspaper “AS” revealed a new name that has begun to be repeated at Santiago Bernabeu to replace Militao in January.
Real Madrid wants to sign Jonathan Tah
According to the Spanish newspaper, Bayer Leverkusen defender Jonathan Tah is currently at the top of the list of candidates to replace Militao.
Real Madrid officials believe that signing Tah will not be as complicated or expensive as the rest of the previous options, given that his contract with Leverkusen expires at the end of the current season.
Earlier, Tah’s agent confirmed that the defender is living his last season with Leverkusen and that he wants to leave for a giant club next summer.
Real Madrid’s interest in Tah’s departure may accelerate, especially since Leverkusen’s management may accept to negotiate and make some money behind him in January instead of leaving him for free in the summer.

Barcelona also targets Tah
Last summer, Tah was the focus of attention of many clubs, most notably Barcelona, especially since the relationship between the player and coach Hansi Flick is very strong.
So far, Spanish newspapers have not stopped confirming that the German international may move to Barcelona next summer for free in light of the Catalans’ search for a new central defender.
Barcelona cannot practically enter into the deal in the winter due to the difficult economic situation, but it is certain that if the player continues in Leverkusen until the end of the season, Barca will try to sign him for free.
Real Madrid’s biggest competitor for Tah: Bayern Munich
It remains to be noted in this regard that Bayern Munich reached an agreement with Tah on all personal terms last summer to move to the Bavarian giants, but Leverkusen’s management obstructed the deal at the last minute.
Until last week, Sky reported that Bayern Munich’s sporting director Max Eberl was still determined to sign Tah, and that there was a near-agreement between the player and the Bavarians on a move next season.
With Real Madrid’s entry, the 28-year-old’s future is complicated and all options are wide open.
