Radio Catalunya reported exciting news that Barcelona President Joan Laporta has turned to Pep Guardiola to take his advice on the identity of the new coach for the Catalan club next season.
The Spanish media presented many proposed names to succeed Xavi in Barca, led by Hansi Flick, Thomas Tuchel and Roberto De Zerbe.
According to the latest news, Laporta contacted Guardiola and asked him to choose the best name to coach Barcelona, and he considered the current Manchester City coach to be his advisor, like Johan Cruyff previously in 2008.
When Frank Rijkaard left as coach of Barcelona, Laporta also turned to Cruyff to seek his advice, in light of the presence of many names proposed at the time, led by Jose Mourinho.
It is as if history is repeating itself. Just as Cruyff chose a name that was not very big at the time, namely Guardiola, the Spanish philosopher chose a name other than the names that seem logically closer.
According to “Radio Catalunya”, Guardiola told Laporta that current Brighton coach De Zerbe is the ideal choice to take over as coach of Barcelona in the coming period.
Guardiola believes that De Zerbe possesses Barca’s DNA, and with him the team will deliver the historically standard performance of entertaining football in line with the demands of the Catalan fans.
The contract with the Italian coach remains somewhat complicated, as his contract is still valid with Brighton and Barcelona will need to pay 15 million euros, which is the value of the release clause, for the English club to allow him to move to Camp Nou.
