Manchester City coach, Pep Guardiola, considered that the defeats his team suffered recently were the main reason for his decision to renew his contract with the English club.
City lost in the last 4 matches in a row before the international break and in 3 different tournaments, a number that happened for the first time in Guardiola’s coaching career, and for the first time for the English club since 2006.
Despite what was reported that this would be an incentive for Guardiola to leave at the end of his contract at the end of the current season, the opposite happened according to the coach’s confirmation.
Guardiola said in an interview with City’s official website, “Since the beginning of the season I have been thinking a lot about this moment, I thought that this season should be my last here.”
He added, “But given the situation today and the problems we faced last month (defeats), I felt that the time was not yet right to leave.”
He continued, “I felt that I could not leave now, it is that simple, do not ask me why.”
“Maybe the four losses are why I feel like this, I can’t really leave, I don’t want to let this club down,” he concluded.
If he fulfills his contract in full, Guardiola will have completed 11 years in charge of Manchester City, during which he achieved many achievements, most notably leading the English club to its first continental title in its history by winning the 2023 Champions League.
Guardiola is currently preparing and hoping to return to the path of victories, when City awaits a very difficult task against Tottenham on Saturday in the 12th round of the Premier League.
