Guardiola reveals: This is how we signed Marmoush

Manchester City coach Pep Guardiola revealed that the idea of signing Omar Marmoush did not come from him, but from sporting director Txiki Begiristain.

Marmoush moved to City last January for 75 million euros after his remarkable brilliance with Eintracht Frankfurt.

The Egyptian international opened his scoring account with the Citizens after 5 matches, when he scored a hat-trick against Newcastle in the Premier League, his first in his career ever.

After the match, Guardiola was asked about the idea of signing Marmoush, to which he replied, “Txiki Begiristain said we needed to sign Marmoush, and I agreed.”

He also added, “I made some calls in Germany and asked about him at the time, and the answer from everyone was very special.”

He concluded, “Many people praised his behavior and what he does in training, and certainly the number of goals he scored and the assists, as well as his speed, so we signed him in the end.”

At the end of his speech, Guardiola wanted to emphasize that his role is to “train the players”, while the contracts are with the sporting director Begiristain, and his opinion as a coach is only advisory.
