Guardiola turns to “New Messi” to save Manchester City’s season

Manchester City coach Pep Guardiola is looking to strengthen his team’s ranks in the upcoming winter transfer period in the hope of saving the rest of the season, and his first idea lies in a player that the English club already owns.

According to the Mirror newspaper, the Spanish coach has contacted the club’s owners, City Group, in order for Claudio Echeverri to return from his loan to Manchester City, instead of joining Girona on loan.

Echeverri signed for City in January 2024 and it was agreed to loan him for a year to River Plate. At the end of this loan, it was decided to loan him again, but to Girona to begin his career in Europe there and prepare him before moving to the Premier League next year.

But Guardiola is now looking for new solutions, and believes that Echeverri, nicknamed “New Messi”, can provide the hoped-for offensive addition, which is why he wants to join his squad immediately in January.

City have yet to make a final decision on the matter, but if Guardiola continues to insist on bringing back the 19-year-old Argentine, they will probably not mind, given the team’s critical situation.

City have only won once in their last eight matches in all competitions, and Guardiola has declared this season “a season of suffering”, ruling out the possibility of the Blues competing for the Premier League title.
