Ilkay Gündogan has once again stirred controversy after a video of him mocking and expressing anger at his Barcelona teammates during the friendly Clasico against Real Madrid in America surfaced.
Despite Barca’s 2-1 victory at MetLife Stadium, the German-Turkish player seemed angry with his teammates, which he expressed in a conversation with Real Madrid star Arda Güler.
According to the newspaper “Marca,” Gündogan spoke in Turkish with Güler, and during their conversation, he called the players of the Catalan club “stupid.”
The 33-year-old told Güler, “They don’t use their heads. If they played smartly, they don’t use their brains, look how many times they lost the ball in the last 15 minutes.”
This video comes at the peak of the rumors about Gündogan’s possible departure from Barcelona this summer in order to provide solutions to the club’s severe financial crisis.
In general, this is not the first time Gündogan has criticized his teammates so openly. He previously attacked Barca players in front of the media after losing last year’s Clasico, and as a result, it was said that he was ostracized for a period within the Blaugrana dressing room.
