Ilkay Gündogan has said goodbye to his Barcelona teammates ahead of his move to Manchester City, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano.
The German player has been in contact with Pep Guardiola in recent days, who in turn agreed to Gündogan returning to Manchester City after just one year with Barcelona.
According to reports, Gündogan has waived his remaining money at Barcelona (two years’ salary remaining on his contract there) so that he can terminate the contract and move to Manchester City for free.
Guardiola played a big role in bringing Gündogan back to City, after assuring him that he would be a key part of his project as soon as he learned that he would be leaving the Catalan club.
The 34-year-old received many big offers from Qatari league clubs, but his final decision was to continue in Europe and return to the Premier League.
