Sir Alex Ferguson believes that Cristiano Ronaldo will retire from international football after Euro 2024, and he explained this by saying that he has advanced in age and football has become very difficult for him.
The legendary Manchester United coach said in an interview with the German newspaper Bild, “I cannot imagine that Ronaldo will play the 2026 World Cup.”
He added, “Football will become faster and more physical in the coming years, and attacking spaces will be increasingly smaller.”
He continued, “Unlike defenders, it is difficult for attackers to play at the highest level as they get older.”
Ronaldo’s godfather continued his somewhat harsh speech, “Winning one or two more titles will not mean much to Ronaldo. He already has a very exceptional career.”
It is noteworthy that Ronaldo, 39 years old, announced earlier that his participation in Euro 2024 will be his last with Portugal in the European Nations, but he hinted that he will not retire from international football before playing the 2026 World Cup.
