British media confirmed that Leicester City has reached an agreement with Ruud Van Nistelrooy to coach the team, succeeding the sacked coach Steve Cooper.
Van Nistelrooy was the assistant coach to Erik ten Hag at Manchester United, before the coach was sacked and the Dutch legend was appointed as an interim coach at Old Trafford.
United contracted with Ruben Amorim to succeed ten Hag, and after talks between Amorim and Van Nistelrooy, it was agreed that the Dutchman would leave United and not work as an assistant to the Portuguese coach.
In the past hours, the former Real Madrid star was linked to working as a coach for Hamburg, but the hesitation of the German club hindered the completion of the matter.
According to recent reports, Leicester City intensified negotiations with Van Nistelrooy in the last hours until they reached an agreement with him to take over immediately.
Van Nistelrooy faces a tough task by all standards, as Leicester City are in 16th place with 10 points, just one point above the relegation zone, and have one of the weakest attacking lines in the Premier League, having scored just 15 goals and conceded 23.
Van Nistelrooy’s first match in charge will be against Brentford at the latter’s stadium next Saturday.
The Dutch coach has led Manchester United against Leicester City twice in the Carabao Cup and the English Premier League, winning both matches 5-2 and 3-0.
