How many goals does Salah need to become Egypt’s all-time top scorer?

Mohamed Salah continued his impressive form this season, this time with the Egyptian national team, scoring in Egypt’s 2-0 victory over Ethiopia in the fifth round of the African qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup.

The Liverpool star is chasing a historic record in his country: becoming Egypt’s all-time top scorer.

The Pharaohs’ coach and one of Egypt’s most important football legends, Hossam Hassan, is the country’s all-time top scorer, having scored 69 goals over his international career, spanning from 1989 to 2006.

With Salah’s goal, the “Egyptian King” reached his 60th international goal, just nine goals away from becoming the team’s all-time top scorer.

Undoubtedly, this number is easy to achieve, given Egypt’s upcoming commitments. The Pharaohs will play numerous World Cup qualifiers, in addition to participating in the Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco and even the 2026 World Cup in the United States.

It’s worth noting that Egypt needs nine points to officially qualify for the World Cup for the fourth time in its history, noting that Salah has previously scored in the World Cup against Russia and Saudi Arabia.
