On Thursday, Manchester City reached an agreement with Eintracht Frankfurt to sign Omar Marmoush during the current winter Mercato.
The negotiations faltered at first, before City officials succeeded in reaching an agreement with the hard-to-reach Frankfurt administration led by sports director Markus Krosche.
According to Sky Sports, Marmoush’s transfer to City will cost the English club 80 million euros.
Manchester City will pay a fixed fee of €75m, plus some add-ons that will bring the total value of the deal to €80m.
Thus, the Egyptian international will become the most expensive Arab player in history, surpassing Achraf Hakimi, who moved from Inter to Paris Saint-Germain for 68 million euros.
Marmoush will also be the most expensive player in Egypt’s history and will break the record set by Mohamed Salah in 2017 when he moved from Roma to Liverpool for nearly 45 million euros.
City officials are currently working on putting the final touches with Frankfurt, stressing that the 25-year-old should not participate against Borussia Dortmund on Friday.
Marmoush leaves Frankfurt after a great season, as he is the second most contributor to goals in the top five leagues with 34 goals (20 goals and 14 assists) in 26 matches in all competitions.
