Egyptian media reported that Al-Ahly coach Marcel Koller decided to exclude Mohamed El-Shennawy from the team’s list participating in the Al-Ahly Bank match on Sunday.
So far, the reasons that led to this decision have not been revealed, noting that El-Shennawy appeared in Al-Ahly’s recent training sessions and did not show any signs of injury.
Some analyses began to suggest that the major dispute that erupted between El-Shennawy and Emam Ashour a few days ago was the reason for Koller’s decision to exclude the captain as well as Emam from the match.
Al-Ahly had fined Emam Ashour one million pounds due to his dispute with El-Shennawy, after the goalkeeper tried to calm him down as a result of his intense anger at not participating in the Stade d’Abidjan match.
Emam Ashour is training with Al-Ahly’s youth team until he apologizes to the sports director Mohamed Ramadan, the coach Marcel Koller, and El-Shennawy for what he did.
With El-Shennawy absent against Al-Ahly Bank, who will protect Al-Ahly’s goal will be the substitute goalkeeper Mustafa Shobier.
Al-Ahly will miss a number of players for various reasons against Al-Bank. In addition to the exclusion of Imam and Al-Shennawy, Taher Mohamed Taher will be absent due to the accumulation of cards, and Wissam Abu Ali, Mohamed Hani and Ashraf Dari due to injury.
It is worth noting that Al-Ahly has 7 points from the first 3 rounds in the Egyptian League after defeating Ceramica and ZED and drawing with Al-Ittihad. Al-Shennawy was the starting goalkeeper in all of these matches.
