The “Relevo” network confirmed that Real Madrid’s management had reached an agreement with goalkeeper Andrey Lunin to renew his contract, but with very special understandings.
The Ukrainian goalkeeper’s current contract expires in the summer of 2025, and after his great brilliance this season, Real Madrid moved to secure his continuation for a longer period.
According to the latest report, the agreement between Lunin and Real Madrid included a renewal for an additional 4 years, allowing him to remain at the Santiago Bernabéu until the summer of 2029, with his salary significantly doubled.
At the same time, the management agreed with Lunin to give him the opportunity to leave if he wanted at any time if he received an offer from one of the large and important clubs in the world.
The understanding made by Real Madrid seems logical, as Lunin will most likely return to the bench next season with the return of Thibaut Courtois, which is something he does not want, so allowing him to leave whenever he wants was the way to obtain his signature on the new contract.
It is noteworthy that the Spanish media revealed earlier that Lunin was angry at the scattered news that Courtois would be the one who will guard Real Madrid’s goal in the Champions League final against Borussia Dortmund.
The date of announcing Lunin’s renewal of his contract with Real Madrid remains ambiguous, but most likely this will happen after the Champions League final on June 1.
