Less than expected.. Porto reveals Barcelona’s share of Gonzalez sale

Porto club confirmed in an official statement that the news circulated by the Spanish media about Barcelona receiving 24 million euros from the sale of Nico Gonzalez to Manchester City is not true.

The Spanish player joined Porto in the summer of 2023, and accepted that Barcelona had 40% of the rights to sell him in the future, which means that his transfer to City for 60 million euros gives Barca 24 million euros.

However, Porto revealed that Barcelona’s share in the future sale of Gonzalez has been reduced from 40% to 20%, with the cancellation of the right to purchase clause, in exchange for the Blaugrana receiving an additional 3 million euros.

Thus, Barcelona will only earn 20% of the 60 million euros resulting from the sale of Gonzalez, i.e. 12 million euros and not as said 24 million euros.

Thus, Barcelona have made a total of 20 million euros from the sale of Gonzalez, after Porto bought him in 2023 for 8 million euros and now they are getting another 12 million.

Perhaps the immediate benefit of the money will not come after the deal came late and did not give the Blaugrana the opportunity to conclude at least a winter deal.

But next summer this money will have provided an acceptable space for Barça to sign at least one player.
