Bayer Leverkusen clinched the German Super Cup title after defeating Stuttgart 4-3 on penalties.
Leverkusen took the lead in the 11th minute through Victor Boniface, but Enzo Millot equalized in the 15th.
Martin Terrier received a red card in the 37th minute, forcing Leverkusen to play with ten men and making life difficult for Xavi Alonso’s side.
Stuttgart took advantage of the numerical disadvantage and scored their second goal through substitute Denis Undav in the 63rd minute.
However, Leverkusen pressed hard despite their numerical disadvantage and managed to equalize in the dying minutes through Patrik Schick, taking the game to a penalty shootout.
Goalkeeper Hrádecký excelled in the shootout as Leverkusen triumphed 4-3, giving Xavi Alonso his third domestic title after winning the Bundesliga and German Cup last season.
The Bundesliga season kicks off next week, with Leverkusen facing Borussia Mönchengladbach, while Stuttgart will visit Freiburg.
