Liverpool are close to reaching an agreement with Jarrell Quansah to renew his contract and continue for a longer period at Anfield.
Quansah, 21, has succeeded in securing his place in the Reds’ squad since last season, and his role has increased with coach Arne Slot this season.
With Virgil van Dijk getting older and the possibility of his departure, Liverpool wants to keep Quansah to be the Dutchman’s successor, so the player has been contacted and his desire explored.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Liverpool’s management is close to agreeing with Quansah to renew his contract after the player expressed his desire to stay with Slot’s battalion.
Quansah’s current contract expires in 2027, but in reality his salary is very modest, so the plan is to extend the contract for another two years with a significant increase in the English player’s salary.
In the same context, Liverpool’s management has decided to open a line of negotiations with another defender, Ibrahima Konate.
The 25-year-old, who has played almost every game for Liverpool this season, has proven himself to be a key player for the club and they don’t want to lose him under any circumstances.
In principle, Konate is happy to stay at Liverpool, and the expectation is that renewal negotiations between the two parties will succeed soon.
It is worth noting that Konate’s contract with Liverpool expires in the summer of 2026, which makes moving to renew his contract now an urgent necessity.
