Lunin is close to leaving Real Madrid, and his replacement is a “historic goalkeeper”

Andriy Lunin’s fate with Real Madrid will be decided this week, when his agent Jorge Mendes meets with the Royal Club’s management in the coming days, according to AS newspaper.

Lunin’s contract with Real Madrid expires in the summer of 2025, and the Merengue management has already offered the goalkeeper a renewal some time ago, but the presence of Thibaut Courtois at the Santiago Bernabeu is the most prominent obstacle to the Ukrainian goalkeeper’s continuation.

According to the latest report, Lunin’s departure seems closer than his continuation, as the player wants to ensure continuous participation, or at least that he has a chance of becoming Real Madrid’s first goalkeeper.

In light of Courtois’ presence, it does not seem logical that Lunin will have opportunities to participate in more than the Spanish King’s Cup matches, or if the Belgian suffers any injury.

At the same time, Mendes will offer Real Madrid a number of goalkeeping alternatives if Lunin’s departure is confirmed, led by Porto goalkeeper Diogo Costa.

Costa became the subject of the world’s talk after his brilliance in Euro 2024 with Portugal, when he saved three penalty kicks from Slovenia, and thus became the first goalkeeper in history to save three consecutive penalty kicks in the history of European nations.

Porto’s president, Andre Villas-Boas, had announced that he had no intention of selling Costa, but the player’s desire would be to leave in the summer if there was an option to join Real Madrid, even if it was as a substitute goalkeeper.

It remains to be noted that other reports indicated that Real Madrid is seeking to buy Kepa if Lunin leaves, but the entry of the Jeddah Union into negotiations with the Chelsea goalkeeper may cause difficulty in achieving this.
