Valencia goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili revealed that he bet Real Madrid star Vinicius Junior that he would miss a penalty kick in Saturday’s match.
Vinicius had the chance to open the scoring in the 13th minute, but the Georgian goalkeeper saved it, and Valencia went on to win 2-1 at the Santiago Bernabéu.
Mamardashvili, who had a legendary performance at the Bernabéu, said, “Before the penalty, I bet Vinicius 50 euros that I would save it.”
He added, “Obviously, I won the bet, but Vinicius hasn’t paid the money yet!”
The Brazilian star was booed after missing the penalty and on several occasions in the first half, before responding with a goal in the second half.
It’s worth noting that Liverpool bought Mamardashvili from Valencia last summer for €30 million, then kept him at the club for another year until Alisson Becker left or his form declined.
