Although all indications were that Kevin De Bruyne was living his last days with Manchester City, there are surprising developments that make the Belgian’s stay closer than ever.
De Bruyne’s contract with the English club expires at the end of the current season, and in light of the expected revolution next summer, it was said that he will be the first to leave, along with 6 other City stars.
According to the Mirror newspaper, the trend within the City administration is to grant De Bruyne a new contract, but on the condition that his salary is significantly reduced.
The new contract includes the 32-year-old continuing for an additional 12 months at the Etihad Stadium, with his salary reduced from 375 thousand pounds per week to 150 thousand pounds per week only.
Perhaps the motivating factor in this decision by the City administration is coach Pep Guardiola, who believes that De Bruyne can still provide an addition on and off the field.
As for the player, he has not made a decision to accept the huge reduction in his salary and continue or move to a club outside Europe with an astronomical salary, although expectations indicate that he will welcome continuing with City until the 2026 World Cup and will accept the new offer.
