Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has announced that John Stones will be out for at least two months due to injury.
Stones suffered a thigh injury during his participation in the second leg of the Champions League Round of 16 play-off against Real Madrid, and left the field in the first half.
Initial speculation was that the injury was more serious than normal, and that the England international would have to undergo surgery.
However, Guardiola confirmed in media statements that the medical staff reassured him that Stones would not undergo surgery, but he would be out for a long time.
According to the philosopher, Stones needs a period ranging from 8 to 10 weeks before he can return and participate in matches with City again.
Stones’ absence is a big blow for City, given that Manuel Akanji also has a similar injury with a similar period of absence, which leaves Guardiola’s options very limited in the centre-back position.
City are currently competing for fourth place in the Premier League, and are hoping to win the FA Cup.
