The international media agreed that the Manchester United management chose the current Sporting Lisbon coach Ruben Amorim to succeed Erik Ten Hag in training the Red Devils.
United announced on Monday the dismissal of Ten Hag from training the team against the backdrop of poor results this season, after the team achieved 3 victories in 11 matches in all competitions so far.
According to journalist Fabrizio Romano, the United management entered into negotiations on Monday with Amorim, who immediately agreed to the move to Old Trafford.
United has already reached an agreement with Amorim to succeed Ten Hag, but the only obstacle currently is that the 39-year-old coach’s contract with Sporting Lisbon is still valid.
The English club’s management has begun negotiating with the Sporting Lisbon management to reach a settlement that allows Amorim to move to the Premier League.
Amorim, who has been dubbed the “new Mourinho”, has a €10m release clause if he wants to terminate his contract with Sporting, but the coach, out of respect for the club that gave him the opportunity, prefers to negotiate and leave by mutual agreement between all parties.
Amorim took over Sporting Lisbon in 2020, and since then he has won the Portuguese league twice, the Portuguese league cup three times and the Portuguese cup once.
If he leaves now, Amorim will leave Sporting Lisbon at the top of the Portuguese league, 6 points ahead of the closest pursuer, Porto.
United legend Ruud Van Nistelrooy is temporarily in charge of Manchester United until an agreement is reached with Ten Hag’s permanent successor.
It is worth noting that Amorim was a candidate to succeed Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool, and was close to coaching West Ham before negotiations faltered at the last minute.
