Spanish journalist Edu Garcia claimed that he contacted the referee of the Real Madrid-Valencia match, Gil Manzano, and the latter admitted that he had made a big mistake at the Mestalla.
Manzano blew the final whistle for the match and the ball was on its way to Jude Bellingham to score the third goal, in an incident that drove Real Madrid players crazy and prevented the Royal Club from returning from the Mestalla with a victory.
Garcia said in press statements, “I spoke with Manzano and I can say that he is well aware now that he was wrong, but he is very calm.”
At the same time, according to the Spanish media, it is most likely that Manzano will stay away from refereeing La Liga matches for a period by decision of the referees’ committee because of what he did in the match between Real Madrid and Valencia.
Fortunately for Real Madrid, the team was not greatly affected by the draw with Valencia in terms of competition for La Liga, as runner-up Girona lost from Mallorca, and Barcelona tied with Athletic Bilbao.
The only negative impact of what happened is that Jude Bellingham received a red card for the dissent, which could result in him being suspended for two or more matches.
