Inter Miami coach Tata Martino has announced that Lionel Messi will return to play for his team in two weeks from now.
The 36-year-old injured his ankle with the Argentine national team against Colombia in the 2024 Copa America final on July 14, and has not played a match since then.
Martino spoke about his compatriot’s condition, saying, “Messi is fine and is training a lot with the group.”
He also added, “He could have participated with us in the Chicago Fire match, but we decided not to rush and give him full time to recover.”
He concluded, “Messi can participate again with us on September 14 in the Philadelphia Union match. He could have played the Chicago match, but we saw that the best option was to wait for the next match.”
Messi returns to Inter Miami and finds his club at the top of the Eastern Conference standings in the American League after a 4-1 victory over Chicago Fire, and Tata Martino’s squad is on the verge of qualifying for the title playoff.
