Real Madrid star Kylian Mbappé rejected comparisons to legends like Cristiano Ronaldo and Ronaldo Nazario because of his goals, emphasizing that numbers don’t make legends.
With his brace against Villarreal, Mbappé equaled Ronaldo Nazario’s goal tally in his first season with Real Madrid, and is now just three goals away from Cristiano’s other all-time record.
Mbappé was asked about these numbers and responded firmly, saying, “If I score more goals than Cristiano or Ronaldo Nazario, it doesn’t mean I’m better.”
He added, “The most important thing is helping the team win. Scoring goals won’t help if we don’t win the league, the Champions League, and the Copa del Rey.”
He concluded, “The season is going well for me, both personally and with the team, but my goal is to help the team win. These are just numbers.”
Real Madrid currently tops La Liga, has reached the Champions League quarter-finals, where it will face Arsenal, and is on the verge of the Copa del Rey final after a 1-0 first-leg win at Anoeta against Real Sociedad.
