Real Madrid held an extensive press conference where Kylian Mbappe spoke about his joining Los Merengues and answered numerous questions from the media.
The first question posed to the French star was about wearing the number 9 jersey while he has preferred to wear the number 10 throughout his career.
Mbappe responded by saying, “The number 9 is an important number, but the numbers don’t matter much to me. I just want to be at Real Madrid.”
He added, “I never said I wanted to wear the number 10. It’s Luka Modric’s number, and it’s an honor to play with him. He’s a champion and a former Ballon d’Or winner.”
At the same time, Mbappe revealed that Real Madrid was not the only club interested in his services, but he refused to join any other club but Los Merengues.
The 25-year-old continued, “I was always certain that I would play here. Real Madrid was my only choice. I had other offers, but I never thought about anything other than Real Madrid.”
Mbappe also spoke about Cristiano Ronaldo, saying, “Cristiano and I are friends. He has always and will always be my idol. He’s a friend who gives me advice all the time. We’re always in touch.”
He concluded, “What happened at the Euros will never change the fact that Cristiano Ronaldo is a legend. He’s a legend in football and for Real Madrid.”
