James Rodriguez led the Colombian national team to reach the final match of the Copa America, after assisting Jefferson Lerma’s goal against Uruguay in the semi-final match.
This was James’ sixth assist in the 2024 Copa America in the United States, thus breaking the record for assists held by Lionel Messi.
The Argentine legend had achieved this record in the 2021 edition in Brazil, after making 5 goals for his teammates, and with it, the Silver Country succeeded in achieving the championship for the first time in many years.
But in 2024, James was able to assist two goals against Paraguay, one in Costa Rica, two goals against Panama, and finally against Uruguay in the semi-finals.
The opportunity is now ripe for the Brazilian Sao Paulo star to increase his goalscoring record in the best possible way, when he plays in the final next Thursday against Messi and Argentina.
