Lionel Messi confirmed that he is suffering from connective muscle pain, which worsened during the match between Argentina and Chile in the second round of the Copa America 2024 groups.
Argentina won thanks to Lautaro Martinez’s goal, and with it officially secured qualification to the quarter-finals of the competition in which it is defending its title.
Messi revealed after the match that he had suffered an injury, saying, “The truth is that I suffer from an injury and it bothers me a little, and I really hope it is not serious.”
He also added, “I think we have to remain calm about this situation. I felt that the connective muscle was inflexible, but I did not feel a tear or anything like that. We will see what happens.”
He concluded, “During the match, it didn’t bother me, but I had some difficulty moving, and now I’m starting to feel pain.”
Messi is scheduled to undergo careful examinations during the next few hours to determine whether he can continue with the Argentine national team for the remainder of the 2024 Copa America.
It is expected that the 36-year-old will miss Peru’s last group match, as it is practically unimportant for Argentina, so he will get 8 days of rest that may be sufficient to resume his career with Lionel Scaloni’s squad.
