Famous journalist Fabrizio Romano confirmed that Inter Miami is closely monitoring Angel Di Maria’s situation with Benfica in preparation for trying to sign him in the upcoming summer transfer market.
The Argentine international’s contract with his Portuguese club expires at the end of the current season, and so far Benfica’s intention has not been clear regarding extending Di Maria’s stay for another year or disengaging.
According to Romano, Inter Miami inquired about Di Maria and what he would do in his future, but so far it has not entered into direct negotiations with the player or his agent to contract with him.
American club officials would like to wait until the full picture becomes clear, and if it is confirmed that he will leave Benfica at the end of the season, then negotiations will begin immediately with him to convince him to join Lionel Messi’s teammates.
Di Maria, 36 years old, will be the fourth player from Messi’s close friends to join Inter Miami, after the inclusion of Sergio Busquets, Jordi Alba and Luis Suarez in the last transfer period.
Di Maria enjoys a close relationship with Messi thanks to their participation with the Argentine national team, and the former Real Madrid player always lavishes praise on “The Flea” and considers him the best in history.
