Milan’s board has decided to dismiss Sergio Conceica at the end of the season due to poor results, and has set its primary goal for leading the Rossoneri in the new season.
Conceica succeeded Paulo Fonseca in January, and his first success was winning the Italian Super Cup. However, results quickly declined, particularly in Serie A.
Milan currently sits in ninth place with 47 points, five points off the top European spot, effectively missing out on Champions League qualification next season.
According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, negotiations are underway between Milan’s board and current Marseille coach Roberto De Zerbi to succeed the Portuguese, especially given his poor performance at the French club.
Milan believes De Zerbi is the ideal choice to put the club’s venerable project back on track, given his distinctive attacking style, which makes him one of the best coaches in the world, particularly in applying high pressure.
De Zerbi is facing a rebellion from some Marseille players, and all indications point to his departure at the end of the current season, even though the coach is on the radar of several clubs, both Italian and English.
Marseille is in third place with 49 points, one point behind second-place Monaco, and two points behind fourth-placed Nice and fifth-placed Lille, respectively.
It’s worth noting that Juventus is also interested in signing De Zerbi if Igor Tudor’s experience doesn’t go as planned. He has also been linked with other clubs, including Roma and Manchester United, among others.
