While everyone around the world criticized the actions of the Argentine national team players on their bus when they chanted racist slogans against France, Argentine President Javier Milei came out in defense of what Lionel Messi’s teammates did.
Enzo Fernandez, in particular, was subjected to a fierce attack due to the widespread video of the chants. Chelsea even decided to impose a disciplinary penalty on him, and his colleagues in the Blues unfollowed him, while the French Federation filed a complaint against its Argentine counterpart to FIFA.
The Argentine Under-Secretary of Sports, Julio Garro, demanded that Messi apologize for the way he celebrated as the captain of the national team, which caused great anger from Argentine President Milei.
The president responded to this by retweeting calls for Garro’s removal from his position, “Saying that Messi should apologize to some European colonialists because of a song that tells the truth completely contradicts our ideology.”
After a fierce attack against Miley, he deleted this tweet and reposted another tweet confirming that he would not ask Messi to apologize and that if this happened, it would be a disgrace to the best player in the world.
Rumors have been spreading in recent hours that Milei took a decision to arbitrarily dismiss Garro, but there is nothing officially confirming this yet, especially since the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Sports went out to the media and denied his demand for Messi’s apology.
It remains to be noted that Messi and some players such as Alexis McAllister and Emiliano Martinez were not on the bus during the filming of the offensive video.
