Former Al-Ahly striker Anthony Modeste refused to return to German stadiums through a giant club, and the secret behind that can be found in “loyalty”.
The French player has been without a club since his contract with Al-Ahly ended last June, after a very bad experience for him with the Egyptian club.
The German media had revealed that Schalke, one of the biggest clubs in Germany in history, which is currently suffering and is active in the second division, wants to sign Modeste on a free transfer.
Modeste commented on that in statements to Sky, confirming that he rejected the offer, and said, “As someone who previously played for Dortmund and Cologne, I felt that moving to Schalke was not the right move.”
He also added, “I feel proud to receive such an offer, despite everything Schalke remains a big club, but my instinct is what decided that this step is not appropriate given my history.”
“I still have the desire to continue playing football and have a new experience. I feel that I am in my best condition and I am ready for the new mission,” he concluded.
It is known that Dortmund is Schalke’s biggest enemy and there is a great rivalry between them in the Rhine region, which is the same region where Cologne is located, and Modeste is one of its most important legends.
It is worth noting that Modeste, 36, in his last experience with Al-Ahly over the course of a full season, played 31 matches during which he scored only 6 goals and made 4 others, and he is considered one of the worst deals in the last decade for the Red Devils.
