Nagelsmann Chooses Germany’s Goalkeeper for Italy Matches

Sky Sports reported that Germany coach Julian Nagelsmann has decided on his country’s goalkeeper for the two UEFA Nations League quarterfinal matches against Italy.

With Manuel Neuer out due to retirement and Ter Stegen out due to injury, Nagelsmann has tried several goalkeepers, the latest of which was Stuttgart goalkeeper Alexander Nübel.

According to the report, Nagelsmann informed Hoffenheim goalkeeper Oliver Baumann that he would be the goalkeeper for the two matches against Italy, preferring him over Nübel due to the latter’s poor performance in the Bundesliga.

The 34-year-old goalkeeper will wear the historic No. 1 jersey, and Nagelsmann preferred him despite his absence from February through early March due to injury.

Baumann has only made two international appearances, during the October and November international breaks against the Netherlands and Bosnia.

Nübel remains a potential successor to Neuer at Bayern Munich and Germany, but like his club Stuttgart, his form has been in a sharp decline recently and has drawn criticism.
