Nagelsmann identifies Toni Kroos’ successor in Germany

Germany coach Julian Nagelsmann has announced the identity of the new captain of the German national team in the coming period after Manuel Neuer and Ilkay Gundogan retired from international play.

The “Mannschaft” are preparing to play two matches during the current international break in the European Nations League against Hungary and the Netherlands.

In the press conference for the start of the German camp, Nagelsmann confirmed that his choice fell on Joshua Kimmich to succeed Gundogan and Neuer in leading Mannschaft.

Nagelsmann said, “Kimmich is the first captain of the German national team, Anthony Rudiger and Kai Havertz will be the vice-captains.”

He added, “We have a good mix now in this role, I think our choice was good here, they are all capable of performing this task successfully.”

Meanwhile, Nagelsmann announced that Barcelona goalkeeper Ter Stegen will be the first-choice goalkeeper for the German national team, while Angelo Stiller is the successor to Toni Kroos in the midfield of the Mannschaft.

Stiller was previously linked with a move to Barcelona in the summer transfer window, but the player chose to stay with his current team, Stuttgart, after a very good last season.
