New Confirmation: Alonso to Stay at Leverkusen Next Season

Xabi Alonso appears closer than ever to continuing with Bayer Leverkusen next season, following a new development in recent hours confirming this.

Bild newspaper revealed that Alonso has begun looking for a new home in Germany, indicating that he will remain with Leverkusen until the end of his contract in the summer of 2026, despite Real Madrid’s interest in acquiring his services.

On Saturday, a new development occurred regarding Alonso’s future, as he is considered the most likely successor if he leaves Bayer Leverkusen.

Stuttgart announced the renewal of their coach Sebastian Hoeness’ contract until 2028, without a release clause. Leverkusen’s chances of signing their first target to succeed Alonso are lost.

Hoeness’s renewal will strengthen Leverkusen’s commitment to Alonso, given that the German club has found no ideal replacement for the Spanish coach. It is thus another sign that the Real Madrid legend will remain at the BayArena for at least another season.

It’s worth noting that Hoeness led Stuttgart to a second-place finish in the Bundesliga last season, returning the southern club to the Champions League after a 14-year absence.
