According to the Spanish newspaper “Sport,” Nico Williams has informed Barcelona officials of his acceptance of their offer to secure his services this summer.
Barcelona president Joan Laporta had announced weeks ago that his club would do everything possible to sign the Athletic Bilbao star after his impressive performances last season and his outstanding display at Euro 2024.
Williams had previously rejected advances from Paris Saint-Germain and was torn between joining Barcelona or staying with Bilbao.
In recent hours, the 22-year-old has agreed to join Camp Nou, according to Sport, leaving the matter now in Barcelona’s hands to finalize the deal.
Barcelona now needs to raise €62 million, the value of Williams’ release clause with Athletic Bilbao, after which the player will sign his contract with the Blaugrana.
It is expected that Barcelona will need at least a week to secure this amount, with a margin to register the player in the squad so he can participate directly in the matches of the new season.
Therefore, it is expected that by the beginning of next week, Nico Williams will be a Barcelona player, meaning his first match could be against his former club Athletic Bilbao on August 24th.
