Athletic Bilbao star Nico Williams has confirmed that he may only stay for one year with his team, and has not decided what will happen after that.
Williams was on Barcelona’s radar, which made him a big offer, before the Basque player announced that he would stay with Bilbao for another year.
Barcelona failed to sign any player to support the left wing position during the last summer Mercato after negotiations with Williams faltered.
Williams said in media statements, “I am very happy here and everyone knows that very well. Studying offers is my agent’s specialty.”
He also added, “I received offers from other clubs, I think that if another player had accepted them.”
He concluded, “But I decided to stay for another season with Bilbao in order to continue developing here, and this is the important thing now.”
Spanish newspapers analyzed the word “another season” as an indication that the summer of 2025 will inevitably witness Williams’ departure from Bilbao.
Barcelona remain interested in signing Williams, who can leave for just €60m, the value of his release clause at San Mames.
