Barcelona’s management has decided to allow Ilkay Gundogan to leave for free after he informed them of his desire to leave Camp Nou.
The German international had requested to leave Barcelona, and according to AS, the reason is that Hansi Flick informed him that he would not be a regular starter.
Barcelona’s management believes that Gundogan’s departure will be beneficial financially, as the club will be rid of his salary burden, allowing them to register or sign a new player.
For this reason, and in appreciation of the fact that Gundogan reduced his salary last year to join Barca, Joan Laporta’s administration will terminate his contract by mutual consent, allowing him to leave smoothly for his next destination.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Gundogan’s next destination is likely to be a return to Manchester City.
Coach Pep Guardiola has agreed to bring Gundogan back after the 34-year-old called him a few days ago and they discussed his potential return to the Etihad Stadium.
Gundogan has offers from Saudi and Qatari clubs, but with Guardiola’s approval, the option of returning to City is also on the table, and it is the most likely scenario.
