Lionel Messi believes that Aston Villa and Argentina national team goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez is the best goalkeeper in the world currently, no matter what other names there are.
Messi’s relationship with Martinez is very close, especially since the goalkeeper was a fundamental reason for Argentina winning the Copa America and World Cup titles and dismantling the Inter Miami star at the international level.
When Messi was asked who is the best goalkeeper in the world from his point of view, he replied, “For me, it is Emiliano Martinez.”
He also added, “If he is not the best for some, he is undoubtedly among the best. He has shown that a lot with the Argentine national team and Aston Villa.”
He concluded, “He succeeded in participating primarily with his team and achieved his personal dream of qualifying for the Champions League. I have no doubt that his club owes him a lot to qualify for the Champions League.”
Martinez is preparing to play his third tournament with Messi, when he leads Lionel Scaloni’s squad in the 2024 Copa America, which begins next week in the United States of America.
