“AS” newspaper has revealed the player most likely to win the Best African Player award in 2024.
CAF has not yet announced the shortlist for the award, which was won by Napoli star Victor Osimhen last year.
According to the Spanish newspaper, Real Madrid star Brahim Diaz is the favorite to win the best in Africa after his achievements with the royal club.
Diaz contributed to Real Madrid’s victory in the Champions League, the Spanish League, and the Spanish Super Cup last season, despite not having many opportunities to start regularly.
In 2024, Diaz made his first appearance for the Moroccan national team, making him now eligible to be nominated among the best in Africa.
Egyptian star Mohamed Salah is not expected to be the best in Africa in view of Liverpool’s modest season, after the Reds only won the Carabao Cup despite his good individual numbers.
So far, Nigerian Ademola Lookman is Diaz’s biggest competitor for the best player award after his amazing performance last season with Atalanta and what he presented in the Europa League final.
The best in Africa ceremony is expected to be held in December as usual, and by then some things may change.
It is worth noting that Diaz scored 12 goals and provided 9 assists for Real Madrid in 44 matches in all competitions last season.
