Arsenal announced in an official statement that Gabriel’s season has ended due to the injury he sustained in the recent Premier League match against Fulham.
Gabriel left the London derby in the first minutes of what at first appeared to be a painful and difficult injury, just days before the Champions League quarter-final match against Real Madrid.
The Brazilian defender underwent medical tests, which revealed a hamstring injury and required urgent surgery that will keep him out until the start of the new season.
Gabriel’s absence is a major blow for Arsenal, coming just days after another injury to Ricardo Calafiori left Mikel Arteta with only William Saliba and Jacob Kiwior as his only available options at center back.
Gabriel has made 42 appearances this season in all competitions, both domestic and continental, scoring five goals and assisting three.
Arsenal are facing a major injury crisis this season, with Gabriel Jesus and Kai Havertz set to miss the remainder of the season, while Bukayo Saka has only recently returned from the injury that kept him out since December.
