Manchester City have officially announced an agreement with Barcelona to re-sign Ilkay Gundogan.
The German international has signed a one-year contract with the English club, although City has not disclosed the details of the agreement with Barcelona.
According to the Catalan media, Barcelona did not receive any money from Gundogan’s departure, but decided to terminate the player’s contract and allow him to return to Pep Guardiola’s squad for free in exchange for waiving his financial claims.
For his part, Gundogan spoke after completing the deal and revealed the reason for his departure from Barcelona, saying, “Of course, I’m leaving Barcelona and I’m not happy, but if my departure can help the club financially, then that makes me less sad.”
He added, “I couldn’t be happier to be returning to City, the opportunity to come back here means a lot to me.”
He concluded, “Honestly, I can’t wait to wear the Manchester City shirt and play matches again.”
