Barcelona announced in an official statement the diagnosis of Robert Lewandowski’s latest injury, without specifying how long he would be out.
The Polish international left the match against Celta Vigo on Saturday with a muscle injury and underwent an MRI on Sunday evening.
According to Barça’s statement, the 36-year-old is suffering from a lateral meniscus injury in his left thigh, and his return depends on the speed of his recovery.
According to all Catalan media outlets, it is unlikely that Lewandowski will participate in next Saturday’s Copa del Rey final against Real Madrid.
Mundo Deportivo confirmed that Lewandowski will also likely miss the first leg of the Champions League semi-final against Inter.
Cadena Cope radio revealed that those close to Lewandowski are talking about a three-week absence, which would effectively mean the end of his season.
The Polish striker hopes to recover quickly from his injury and play some of the remaining matches this season, although it appears to be a very difficult prospect.
If he is out for three weeks, Lewandowski’s return this season will depend solely on Barcelona reaching the Champions League final, at which point he should be ready.
It’s worth noting that Lewandowski has scored 40 goals in all competitions for Barcelona this season, and his absence leaves Ferran Torres as the only available option to replace him at centre forward.
