The German Football Association (DFB) has extended the contract of national team coach Julian Nagelsmann for an additional two years.
Nagelsmann was appointed interim coach of the German national team in September 2023, before signing a new two-year contract during the DFB’s 125th anniversary celebrations in Leipzig.
Nagelsmann said in a statement: “We have all created something together, the fans, the players and the coaching staff, and now we want to develop it successfully. We want to win titles together.”
Shortly before the start of Euro 2024, Nagelsmann extended his contract to also include the 2026 World Cup, which will be held in the United States, Mexico and Canada. He will now remain in charge of the German national team until Euro 2028, which will be held in Britain and Ireland.
“When I took over Germany in September 2023, I could not have imagined that I would be the national team coach after the Euro on home soil,” Nagelsmann continued.
“But I also had no idea how much the national team would touch the hearts of people in Germany. The amount of support we have all received, not just me, shows us that we are on the right path together. And the work is not over yet.”
Germany’s next matches are against Italy in the quarter-finals of the UEFA Nations League, which will determine their qualification for the 2026 World Cup.
