Mauricio Pochettino has been appointed coach of the US national team, succeeding Gregg Berhalter.
In a statement by the US Soccer Federation, it was announced that the Argentine coach will start his duties starting next week with a contract extending until the end of the 2026 World Cup.
The US Federation aims to contract with Pochettino to be in the best possible readiness for the upcoming World Cup, which will be hosted by the United States of America with Canada and Mexico.
Pochettino takes over the task after Berhalter was dismissed from his position following the disappointing participation in the last Copa America and the exit of the competition from the group stage.
Pochettino spoke about this step, saying, “The decision to lead America was not just about football for me, it was about the journey that this team and this country are taking.”
He added, “You can see the energy, the passion, and the hunger to achieve something historic here, that’s what inspired me to come here.”
It is noteworthy that Pochettino rose to fame as a coach with Southampton, then his best experience was with Tottenham, and after that he worked with Paris Saint-Germain and Chelsea, but without any notable successes.
