Bayern Munich announced in an official statement that Thomas Müller’s journey with the Bavarian club will end at the end of this season, after 25 years at the Allianz Arena.
German media reported earlier last week that Bayern had decided not to renew Müller’s contract, which runs until the end of the current season.
After negotiations between the two parties, the German club confirmed the news on Saturday, extending its sincere thanks to Müller in a lengthy statement for his significant contributions to the Bavarian giants’ history.
The 35-year-old commented on the decision, saying, “It has been an incredible journey with unforgettable moments. I am eternally grateful to Bayern Munich.”
Sporting director Max Eberl justified the decision to terminate Müller’s services by saying, “It was a very difficult decision, but it is simply due to the club’s plans. We are currently focusing more on young players and the future.”
The 2025 Club World Cup will be Müller’s final stop with Bayern. It’s reported that the player has offers from the MLS and that he won’t retire by leaving the southern German club.
Müller still has the opportunity to finish the season on a high note, as Bayern Munich leads the Bundesliga and faces a difficult match against Inter in the Champions League quarterfinals.
